Start with a diagnosis
An uncomfortable room does not automatically mean the system needs replacing. Ask whether airflow, ducts, thermostat settings, or an equipment fault is driving the problem.
Review repair history and performance
Consider recurring faults, the cost of the proposed repair, comfort, energy use, equipment age, and remaining warranty. Age alone does not make the decision.
Compare complete options
Ask for written repair and replacement scopes. For replacement, include sizing, duct needs, permits, warranties, installation details, and maintenance expectations.
Explore heat pumps when appropriate
Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling. Ask whether one is suitable for your home, electrical system, and comfort goals. Do not assume every home needs the same equipment.
